Assisted Hatching

What is Assisted Hatching?

Assisted Hatching is a method through which an embryo with a thick outer layer of zona pellucida is made ready to be implanted in the uterus. This is done by creating an opening in the zona pellucida ( outer layer of embryo) , under specific conditions in the laboratory for the embryo to get implanted successfully.

It is a new age medical treatment that comes to a great aid for those couples find it difficult in getting pregnant naturally. This technique helps in increasing the success rate of the woman getting pregnant by aiding the process of embryo implantation in the uterus successfully.

Assisted Hatching, being a part of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) process, has been proved to be a very safe and hassle-free process .

  • When it is an option?

It is considered in the following scenarios:

Doctors might recommend it for patients undergoing the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) process if it is not successful.
Women who have embryos with a thick outer layer of zona pellucida might have to undergo this as natural hatching for that embryo becomes difficult.
